Fret = Fat ;-)

Today I had an interesting epiphany. The Bible was our ancient ancestors "Prevention Magazine". The Bible gives us the best advice about staying healthy without using a bunch of fancy words and complicated concepts. Here is what I mean:

Most of us know some ways that stress and worry run down our bodies and our physical health. Anxiety and worry increase heart disease, blood pressure, inflammation, blood sugar (diabetes), wears down the immune system, decreases muscle tissue, decreases bone density, depression, and now the big news is the increase in cortisol production, which increases fat. Wow! That is scary. There is a lot of scientific research that has been invested into this area of concern. Millions of dollars have been spent to take care of a problem that God knew about from the beginning.

Here is what the bible says. Psalms 37:8 Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret-- it only causes harm.” I am sure there are times that God's says, as politely as he can, "I told you so." That is good advice, but how do we do that in this high pressure, high activity world. Earlier in the chapter offers a good solution:

Psalms 37:3-7

3Trust in the Lord, and do good;

Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

4 Delight yourself also in the Lord,

And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the Lord,

Trust also in Him,

And He shall bring it to pass.

6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,

And your justice as the noonday.

7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;

You can accomplish all of these delightful attributes by resting in the Word of God. What does God’s word have to say about the anxiety and fear that you feel? Go to his Word and let it be your comfort and your rest.
